Date ideas: Zürich

17 Feb

There is something you can count on in Switzerland; its supreme efficiency and excellent time keeping, and this is especially important if you want to maximise a weekend away in Europe.

Zurich city date ideas

While you may not have thought of Zürich as an imaginative getaway, think again. It’s reliable in every sense of the word when it comes to trains, planes and automobiles.

So read on, and feel free to steal some of my Top Date Ideas Zürich …

Zip in on Swissair where you’ll find yourself munching on delicious Swiss chocolate before you even hit the runway. Glide into a total taxi AKA Mercedes outside baggage claim to be whisked off to The Hotel Widder which has been magnificently cobbled together from nine townhouses.

You can of course expect a bedroom filled with spotless white linen clad duvets and mountains of pillows reflect the alpine scenery outside.

Classic and contemporary meet in a perfect design unison and set the stage for romance in such a way you may spend the entire weekend grazing the room service menu.

Alternatively, just up the hill overlooking town is the spectacular Dolder Grand. British architect Sir Norman Foster has done wonders to lift this hotel into the 21st century with impeccable style. If you can shuffle back to your room from the gorgeous spa, you can contemplate the stunning view from your enormous bath. If you can bring yourself to venture outside where to begin?

An essential and a favourite amongst my date ideas Zürich and really a must see for art lovers? Take it from me you will absolutely revel in the Kunsthaus Museum . Likewise, if you want to see some art and culture, and you are feeling a little more urban and hip pop, head down to Les Halles in the former industrial quarter. It’s brimming with art, fashion and authentic local cool. What’s hot on the restaurant scene? Haute. It’s a private members club so have concierge take care of the booking.

If you are foodies and like a view you might want to try the Michelin starred “Spice”  – taste bud heaven.

If you like to dine surrounded by paintings by Chagall, Miro, Braque and Matisse, then head for Kronenhalle which has played host to Coco Chanel, Pablo Picasso and James Joyce.

If you want trendy and to rub shoulders with media types then Segantini will likely be your inventive cup of tea with a modern twist, and nice alternative to the usual date ideas Zürich. Venturing out of Zurich and eager to experience something seriously racy with your date, then book quickly for White Turf 2015 in the perennially sophisticated and glamorous St Moritz. Horse racing in the snow with live music, art and beautiful people, what’s not to love?
