I don’t want a lot for Christmas…

09 Nov

Having already mentioned in a previous post how bringing joy to a loved one can bring happiness to you… we at VIDA are here to tell you that Christmas, if used correctly, can have the same effect! We naturally want to look after others, even caring for those we have never met above ourselves. This is due to the prehistoric belief that everyone we come across in life, we could meet again, therefore it seems we are instinctively generous. What a lovely thought! So if being generous to strangers can give us joy imagine what buying the perfect Christmas gift for your loved one could do! It has been scientifically proven that offering your partner a present can give you more of a sense of satisfaction in your mesolimbic system (reward giving system) than receiving money.

The value of a gift, stems from the calculation that went into its choice, and what it means to its recipient. So this Christmas if you find yourself trolling through the shops and your loved one points out, or mentions something they like…. make note!! The more thought and effort the better it will feel and the more they will appreciate it!

Similarly generosity that is both spontaneous and unexpected is one of the top three predictors of a successful marriage.

So make this Christmas the best ever for both you and your partner.. and help Santa out.. HoHoHo!
