Romance in the movies have the edge when the scenes are set in an autumnal setting ablaze in red, yellow and orange. But where to find the perfect spot to experience this on both sides of the pond? Leafy vistas with fireside dining and cosy weekend away accommodation is what we dream of at this time of the year. If you want to stay close to home, take a stroll through the leaves with me as I reveal my top tips for autumnal romance in the city.

London has no shortage of parks, but for an autumn stroll that feels like you could be in the country, head up to Hampstead Heath. With close to 800 acres of space to explore, enter the heath at Hampstead High Street for the four-mile stroll past Burgh House up Parliament Hill and back via Kenwood House.

Book a table for lunch at the gorgeous grade II listed 19th Century Holly Bush where you can warm up by the open fire. It’s the perfect spot for warming gastro pub cuisine with a menu that’s pleasing to all palates. You’ll feel like you’ve been away to the country but it’s really only a short ride back to your cost London bolt hole.

Check into the Zetter Townhouse in Marylebone and set up camp in one of the gorgeous studio suites. The romance continues in the fabulous Seymour Parlour where you can sit by a real log fire and sip on cocktails while listening to the perfectly pitched jazz vocals wafting ambience around the plush armchairs and sofas. Who needs to leave town, autumnal romance awaits right here in town?

Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis is synonymous with style, so a long stroll around the reservoir is a must and may seem like new when you have the object of your affection on your arm. If you’ve got designs on love then hit the Cooper Hewitt Museum and grab a coffee to go from Tarallucci e Vino inside for your walk.

What used to be Elaine’s is now The Writing Room and a great spot for a literary lunch. Make sure you request a table in The Study where the fireplace is book ended by…well…books. Tuck into the rotisserie chicken it’s lush and just the trick for a chilly autumn day.

The Lowell Hotel personifies the elegance of the upper east side, and one of the few hotels with real working fireplaces. Make sure you book a suite with one of the said fireplaces you won’t need to venture out again, as room service dinner served in your own living room with the flames flickering romantically in the background, could not be better.
