If you’ve been watching gripping TV series The Bridge, The Killing or perhaps loved Girl with A Dragon Tattoo, then you’ll possibly be loving everything Scandi even if you’re not an ABBA fan.
Stockholm, Sweden is home to one of our lovely Matchmakers Matilda who will be the first to tell you that Stockholm is a fabulous weekend getaway destination. Not only that, but full of wonderful singles if you’re interested in the Stockholm dating scene.
If you’re smart you’ll book ahead for a weekend in July when the city is quiet and the sunshine abundant warming the network of 14 islands on the edge of the Baltic that make up this city.
Graffiti is classified as ‘street art’, frumpy or clunky design is a rarity, and the city is as safe and clean as it is hip and cosmopolitan. Finding somewhere to sleep is the first port of call, and we recommend The Lydmar for it’s city centre position and wonderful harbour views. A building of white stone that contains lots of luxurious comfort. http://www.lydmar.com/
The Hotel J is styled on the craftsmanship of a yacht which is perfect for Stockholm, expect lots of oak and white linens with a nod to New England in the blue white and red accents. Alternatively Berns hotel which was originally a restaurant when it opened in 1863 is simply dripping with style and entertainment under one roof.
If you like a café than check out Snickarbacken 7. In a former stable down a dead-end lane featuring an adjoining concept store. Sip a fresh-pressed juice and then check out the shop in the rear, where you’ll find Swedish labels like Tuss and Stutterheim (very stylish raincoats). Go to Hipp for colorful jewelry and printed trays designed by its owner Julia Nielsen. Also try Parlans Konfektyr, a candy shop with a jazz-era style offering caramels, made in the adjacent kitchen, in flavors like sea salt, cardamom and licorice.
If you love a succulent rotisserie chicken then head for chefs Jacob Holmstrom and Anton Bjuhr’s Michelin starred Nordic restaurant, Gastrologik. You may also like the gastro pub The Flying Elk which will put you close by to Alg Hjartat a semi-secret underground beer hall. After a sleep in, Stockholm needs to be seen from the water so take a ferry to Hammarby Sjostad and get off at Lumabryggan right outside the Nya Carnegiebryggeriet, a new microbrewery. Try saying that after a couple of beers on the waterfront terrace! Travel tip, take the train into the centre of town from the airport.
We would love to hear from anyone who knows someone wonderful and single, interested in dating someone in Stockholm, to introduce to Vida.
